Requirements
This specific wheelset was built for Pole Bicycles Voima, arguably the most progressive E-MTB in the market with a whopping 190mm of travel on both ends! Despite the downhill-grade travel numbers, the bike is designed to be an all-rounder, although with a heavy gravity focus.
A wheelset that would match the bike in its capabilities needed to meet the following list of criteria:
- Durable & reliable.
- As high POE as possible – instant in the case of Onyx Racing Products hubs, thanks to the patented sprag clutch mechanism.
- Low drag – Onyx hubs are the fastest rolling hubs out there, and it’s backed up by science.
- Strong and capable rims.

The Hubs
Onyx Racing Products Classic hubs are tried and tested performers! They are the heavy-duty model in the lineup that meet the requirements even in the most challenging applications. E-MTB’s is one such example, and the Classic hubs have a stamp of approval for e-bike use granted by the manufacturer.
The Classic hubs were chosen with the following specs:
- Boost spacing.
- 32 H for strength and ease of maintenance
- .ISO 6-bolt disc mounts
- Shimano MS driver
- Black Aura colour – stylish and a timeless choice!
Rims
Beast Components is a German manufacturer has specialised in carbon manufacturing. 100% of their products are made in-house which gives them full control of the production all the way to quality control.
The DH30 rims have a reputation of being nearly indestructible. Combined with their competitive weight they make an excellent choice for this particular wheelset.
29-inch diameter and 32H spoke count was chosen.
The Build
The wheels were built with Sapim Race spokes and black brass nipples supplied by the same manufacturer. The spokes were tensioned to the maximum allowed tension with very little variation. The spokes were stress-relieved multiple times during the build to make the wheels as durable as possible and to ensure low-maintenance needs.
One wheelset to rule them all – at least when it comes to heavy-duty E-MTB applications.
