New Design
The Expert hub employs a fully new design providing the legendary performance Onyx Racing Products hubs are known for. The new design includes, but is not limited to the following features:
- New axle.
- Revised preload mechanism that is similar to the one used in Vesper hubs.
- Easier access to the clutch mechanism.
- Optionality when it comes spoke hole counts; choose between 28H, and 36H hub shells.
- New & ingenious freehub driver body, and driver interface.
The last point is what brings us to the topic at hand – Hybrid Freehub™ System.
Hybrid Freehub™ Upgrade
The Hybrid Freehub is a type of freehub driver body assembly which replaces the stock chromoly freehub driver body with its threaded lockring – as well as the cog.
By doing this, the assembly is simplified by removing the interface between the freehub driver body, and the cog. This in turn saves weight. For reference, a Hybrid Freehub™ 16T upgrade saves 39g when compared to matching size aluminium cog with the stock HG freehub driver body. Compared to chromoly cog, the weight saving is larger.
Installation
Hybrid Freehub™ upgrades are sold as an additional upgrade to the standard Expert Hub assembly. Installation is made by the customer. see below for instructions.

Who Is It For?
The Hybrid Freehub™ upgrade is for riders who are looking for the lightest weight possible to gain an extra advantage. The upgrade also simplifies the rear hub assembly, and eliminates the possibility of a cog coming loose.
Particularly strong riders who wear through drivetrain components in a quick fashion are most likely best served by running a chromoly cog. The same applies to riders who seek maximum wear-resistance from their drivetrain components.
