EZO Bearings

All Onyx hubs have been supplied with EZO bearings from early 2025.  What are these bearings about? Read further to learn more!

Introduction

EZO is a well-known, and respected Japanese bearing manufacturer known for its high-quality products. They’ve been making bearings from 1969, and started exporting them in 1977. Nowadays EZO bearings are sold in over 30 countries.

According to the manufacturer themself, they rely on highly automated manufacturing processes with the addition of having a capability to meet different, and diverse application needs.

Sealed Cartridge Bearings

All Onyx hubs run on sealed cartridge bearings. For reference, a Vesper or Classic MFU rear hub runs on six different bearings: three in the hub shell, one in the driver assembly, and two in the freehub driver body.  The reason for higher than usual bearing count is to isolate the clutch mechanism from axial loads. In other words, the axial, and drive loads are separated from each other in order to achieve the best performance, and durability as possible.

Bearing sizes used on Onyx hubs are as follows:

Bearing code Dimensions (OD x ID X Thickness) Example application
6802 24x15x5mm Driver assembly, or MFU freehub driver body
6902 28x15x7mm Vesper, and Classic CL NDS bearing
6804 32x20x7mm Classic ISO NDS, and center bearing
6805 37x25x7mm Classic, Vesper, and Pro model driver support bearing
6806 42x30x7mm Ultra BMX driver support bearing
6807 47x35x7mm Ultra SS(D) driver support bearing
15267 15x26x7mm OHM hub shells
17287 17z28x7mm Ultra BMX 110/15mm thru-bolt freehub driver body bearing

All EZO bearings found on Onyx hubs are specially formulated for this exact purpose. Bearings are made of steel, and filled with a blend synthetic grease in order to minimize friction, and protect from corrosion.

Features & Benefits

EZO bearings offer excellent performance, and superb value. Based on extensive lab testing, they equal or outperform previously used bearings on every metric. In addition to superior performance metrics, EZO bearings are serviceable in order to get as much as runtime as possible.

Bearings are found in the webshop in the spare parts section.
